Awards Becoming a Scholar Staff

Staff

Beth Clodfelter, ONCA Director

Formerly Director of U.S. Fulbright Programs & Liaison for International Partnerships, Beth Clodfelter oversees the Office of Nationally Competitive Awards. She specializes in awards for international travel, research, and teaching, as well as those focused on science, sustainability, and environmental issues. She is an active member of the National Association of Fellowship Advisors.

Beth received a Bachelor’s in History with a minor in Political Science and a Master’s in Latin America Studies from Indiana University. She has held several other positions at OU before becoming the Director of ONCA. Beth loves to travel, hike, and ride her bike. She is very interested in environmental issues.

Beth really likes working with bright, motivated OU students who are interested in the world and making a difference in it. She feels privileged to witness the "aha!" moments that students sometimes reach during their award meetings.

Cary Roberts Frith, Fellowship Advisor

Cary joined the Office of Nationally Competitive Awards from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism faculty. In addition to her fellowship advising duties, she manages internal and external communication for the Honors Tutorial College, ONCA, and the Honors & Scholars Network. She also teaches HTC courses.

She received a Park Doctoral Fellowship at the University of North Carolina’s School of Journalism & Mass Communication, so she understands the competitive application process firsthand and knows how difficult it can be to succinctly communicate research and career goals. She looks forward to helping students clarify and share their aspirations.

Cary worked for more than a decade in magazine, newsletter, and online journalism before entering the academy. She is an alumna of the Honors Tutorial College and is excited to be working in Park Place.

Alden has been a resident of Ohio for over 27 years, lured to the beautiful land of southeastern Ohio. She lives on a 65-acre farm in Meigs County. Along with her seven pets, the large garden on her farm keeps her quite busy.

Leisha Lininger, PACE Intern

Leisha Lininger is a sophomore studying journalism in the Honors Tutorial College with a minor in dance. She loves to learn, dance, and write. She spent two weeks in the summer of 2011 studying dance and outreach in New York and performed for local community organizations. Also passionate about helping people, she serves on the Presidential Advisory Council for Disability and Accessibility Planning to improve and add services for people with disabilities as well as raise awareness on Ohio University’s campus. In addition, she spends time as a resident assistant, creating a community through which new students grow to love Ohio University and Athens. She is also involved with Campus Crusade for Christ as a Bible study leader.

A native of Toledo, Ohio, Leisha trekked to Athens not only for the beautiful campus but also for the outstanding opportunities to grow academically, mentally, and holistically. Athens is truly her home away from home. She loves biking on the Hocking Adena Bikeway, spending Saturday mornings at the Athens Farmers Market, learning sign language, and meeting new people.
