An anonymous donor has made a gift to the Honors Tutorial College to honor the current Assistant Dean, Jan Hodson, and the Administrative Coordinator/Budget Unit Manager, Kathy White.
The gift, a $15,000 endowment, was made by an anonymous donor who wanted to recognize the dedication of Hodson and White, said Ellen Fultz, Ohio University Executive Development Director. “The donor wanted to recognize them for the hard work they do,” Fultz said. “They are loyal and passionate and the donor wanted that work to be seen by others.”
Creating a fund to honor people who are still alive and actively working in the Honors Tutorial College is a noteworthy event. “It’s a really special way to honor Jan and Kathy’s commitment to the college,” Dean Webster said. “They’re still here when the fund was created, and that’s not something that happens very often.”
Kathy White, who has worked with the Honors Tutorial College for 7 years felt flattered after finding out about the fund created in her honor. “I love working with the students here,” White said. “And I was very honored and excited when I found out about the fund.”
The Jan Hodson and Kathy White Fund will go on in perpetuity, Fultz said, and people who would like to contribute to the fund are welcome to make a donation. “To continue the growth of the fund, donators should specify the Jan Hodson and Kathy White Honors Tutorial College Endowment Fund as the account when making a gift to Ohio University,” Fultz said.
The fact that a donor chose to fund an endowment in their honor was surprising at first, Jan Hodson, who has worked with the Honors Tutorial College for 12 years, said. “I’m honored someone recognizes what Kathy and I do,” Hodson said. “Our jobs don’t get a lot of publicity; they are done quietly, so to have someone honor us for what we’re doing is heartwarming.”
