Current Programs of Study
The Honors Tutorial College offers 32 challenging programs of study that provide a unique educational experience to a select number of qualified students. HTC students take a substantial portion of their core curriculum as tutorials, which allow a more customized educational experience.
A tutorial consists of a faculty member meeting with students either individually or in small groups. In pursuing this method of instruction the College draws upon the rich educational traditions of Cambridge and Oxford.
Each program is administered by a full-time faculty member appointed by the College. These professors, known as Directors of Studies, act as academic advisers, work with their colleagues to arrange tutorials, conduct admissions interviews, and coordinate their particular programs of study.
Each Program of Study has its own specific academic goals. All programs involve tutorials, but some also ask students to complete a sequence of collateral studies, participate in a seminar or lecture series, pass a set of comprehensive exams, or undertake laboratory, field, or studio work.
All programs of study require the completion of a thesis project. Students must maintain a 3.5 GPA in their program of study and in their overall coursework.
Although Directors of Studies assist students in selecting the proper courses for each academic term, students are responsible for making sure that all requirements of their program of study are met.
