Education Abroad
Honors Tutorial College students are encouraged to study abroad at some point during their time at Ohio University. The Office of Education Abroad at Ohio University offers a wide variety of programs. HTC students may choose to study abroad for a quarter, a year, a summer, or even during winter break. Working with their Director of Studies and the Assistant Dean, most students are able to study abroad without lengthening the time it takes to receive their degree. Click on "Students Abroad" under "Current Students" on this site to read about the adventures of HTC students abroad.

Kevin Sasson Scholarship for Education Abroad
Kevin Sasson, a 1997 HTC Telecommunications alumnus, has generously created a scholarship to facilitate international study experiences for Honors Tutorial College students. During his time at Ohio University, Mr. Sasson took an active role in campus life. His academic and leadership achievements ranged from his selection as the first winner of the Herb Baer Essay award to his service as a student trustee. Upon graduation, he began working in London for a global communications company. Mr. Sasson's experiences in the United Kingdom, along with his desire to acknowledge the opportunities provided by Ohio University for personal and professional development, prompted him to establish a scholarship for Honors Tutorial College students. The aim of the Sasson Scholarship is to allow students to experience the uniquely enriching insights that can only be gained from studying in another country.
The Sasson Scholarship provides $3000 to be used to defray expenses associated with an Ohio University-approved education abroad program. That program must be at least one academic quarter (understood to be at least 10 weeks) in duration, it must commence before October 2008, and consist of at least three courses taken for graded academic credit. All HTC students, with 3.5 or above g.p.a.'s, will be eligible to apply for this scholarship, but outstanding applicants participating in programs in Central America will be given preference.
How to Apply
- Complete the application form available on the HTC website (see below). Please note that a two-page essay is part of the application.
- Submit the form and essay to the college, 35 Park Place by 5:00 p.m. on October 26, 2007.
- Be available to participate in an interview with the selection committee during the first two weeks of November, if requested to do so.
Applications will be reviewed by a committee consisting of the Dean and faculty associated with the Honors Tutorial College. The student selected to receive the Sasson Scholarship will be notified in December 2007. An alternate will also be chosen and notified at the same time. The Sasson Scholarship winner will need to submit to the Dean of the College documentation concerning the nature and duration of the academic coursework to be undertaken before disbursement of the scholarship funds will take place. If the student selected to receive the Sasson Scholarship is unable to undertake their planned study abroad before October 2008, the scholarship will pass to the first alternate.
