A Summer in the Minor Leagues with Brian Boesch

After sending out his resume to numerous baseball teams, senior Brian Boesch was offered the opportunity to be the voice of the Burlington Royals this past summer.

Boesch searched out teams that did not have full time broadcasters, in the hopes of finding summer work that would help him fulfill his career goal of becoming a paid broadcaster for a minor league baseball team.

The Burlington Royals, a lower-level minor league team gave Boesch the chance to gain media experience in his chosen field.

“I was a one man media department,” Boesch said. “I did the stories, I did the recaps, I did the blog, I did the broadcast, I produced the broadcast, I engineered the broadcast; I did everything.”

The work Boesch did this summer will serve as a facet of his thesis project, which studies lower level minor league baseball and its relation to journalism.

Boesch credits the one on one attention he got as an HTC student with helping him get the credentials and knowledge he needed this summer.

“It helped me become more of a legitimate and well-read and well-versed broadcaster,” Boesch said. “Basically what the Honors Tutorial College does is it makes you work on your own … you need to figure out your own stuff.”
