Robin Blaetz , Women’s Experimental Cinema: Critical Frameowrks

Robin Blaetz, (1978, English) went on to earn an M.A. and Ph.D in cinema studies from New York University. Dr. Blaetz is currently an Associate Professor and Chair of the Film Studies Program at Mount Holyoke College. This latest book analyzes the works of fifteen avant-garde female filmmakers.

 

 

 

 

Joel Saunders Elmore, The Amateur American

Joel Saunders Elmore, (2001, English) taught English in Nantes, France after graduation. In 2004, he won a New York Times fellowship in creative writing at New York University, after receiving his MFA in fiction in 2006. He is a full time faculty member in the Expository Writing Program at New York University. This is his first novel.

 

 

 

 

 

Jessica Olmon, The Insider's Guide to Getting a Big Firm Job: What Every Law Student Should Know About Interviewing

Jessica Pursglove Olmon (2001, Business) wanted to share her job search experiences with her fellow law students. After landing a job with Fulbright & Jaworski in Los Angeles, Olmon teamed with Erika Finn to write The Insider's Guide to Getting a Big Firm Job: What Every Law Student Should Know About Interviewing. Olmon said that she is a firm believer that all law students, no matter the location of their law school, should have the same chance at landing a job at a big law firm. In the book, she shares the interviewing skills she believes will help that happen.

 

Robert Ellis, City of Fire and The Lost Witness
Robert Ellis (1976, Film) published his first mystery novel in 2001. City of Fire introduces detective Lena Gamble, who follows serial killer “Romeo” through Los Angeles. Lena Gamble returns in Ellis’s next novel, The Lost Witness, which will be released in February, 2009.

 

 

 

 

Jessica Hagy, Indexed
Jessica Hagy (1999, Journalism) began her blog Indexed in 2006; because of its popularity, Hagy released the book of the same name in 2008. This collection of humorous and ironic charts and graphs has been getting a lot of laughs in the Common Room. For a taste of her unique humor, visit thisisindexed.com.

 

 

Scott Owens, The Fractured World

Scott Owens’s (1984, English) The Fractured World consists of forty-eight poems united by the theme of contemporary feelings of fragmentation. Several of the poems in the collection were begun while Owens was a student including “Splinters,” based on the book The Minds of Billy Milligan by former OU professor, Daniel Keyes.

 

 

 

Lindy Scott, Christians, the Care of Creation, and Global Climate Change
Lindy Scott (1973, Sociology and Philosophy) recently edited Christians, the Care of Creation, and Global Climate Change, an urgent call to love God and neighbor by taking better care of our environment, especially in light of global warming.

 

 

 

Jonathan Reed Winkler, Nexus: Strategic Communications and American Security in World War I
Jonathan Reed Winkler (1997, History) examines the development of global communication in Nexus. His findings uncover precedents that have affected American developments in telephony, short-wave radio, satellites, and the internet.
